REDUNDANT FREEMAN STREET CINEMA SET TO GO UNDER THE HAMMER AT LEEDS AUCTION

THE former  cinema on  Grimsby's Freeman Street is set to go under the hammer.

The  building, which later accommodated  a KwikSave supermarket, is Lot 118 in a property auction to be held by Pugh at a suite at Leeds United FC on February 21.

Once a magnet for cinema-goers, it is now regarded as an eyesore, and its continued presence has often been blamed for holding up regeneration of a rundown part of the town.

However, demolition has not been an attractive option because of the likely high cost, especially as the building is thought to contain substantial amounts of asbestos.

One of the last films screened at the cinema was Ghostbusters.

According to Pugh, the guide price for the proprty is £120,000-plus.

The auction is due to start at noon.
